Updates to the 2020 CRF rangeUpdates to the 2020 CRF range

2020 will bring with it a range of updates to the Honda adventure and trail bike range, including increased power, uprated chassis components and new colour schemes.

Kicking off with the road friendly CRF250L, 450L and CRF250 Rally, all three bikes have been treated to new colours and graphics. Among the new colours, there will be a new Stealth Black colour scheme, In addition to the classic Honda red and white.

Although these are the only changes to all three bikes at the moment, a concept 450L Rally shown at last years EICMA and Motorcycle live shows could suggest that a larger capacity road legal mud plugger could be added at a later date.

MCN’s resident off-road expert, Michael Guy said “Using what appears to be the same frame as both the CRF450R motocrosser and the CRF450L trail bike released earlier this year, the Rally concept features two fuel tanks offering a claimed capacity of 18-litres.

"Unlike their actual Dakar bike, which features two extra fuel tanks towards the rear, this machine has been given a handy tool box where one of the tanks would ordinarily sit. A low-slung Termignoni exhaust system retains some of the Dakar appeal, alongside a high front mudguard," he added.

Additionally, Honda have made a range of revisions to their off-road fleet, with the CRF250R receiving most of the attention. Updates to the CRF250R include chassis updates taken from the larger capacity CRF450R.

Thanks to some mechanical tweaking to the engine, adding an upgraded cylinder head and piston design, an increase in low to mid-range grunt has resulted in an 8% increase in peak power and torque.

To support the increase in performance, Honda cast an eye over the bikes gearing, reworking the bikes second gear and adding a low friction coating to both third and fourth gears. In terms of handling, the ride will be nimbler, thanks to weight reductions within the frame and swing arm, also improving chassis flex.
