The Honda Monkey is an icon from the 60’s, reimagined for the modern day with a capable 125cc engine built onto MSX125 derived architecture. The bike itself in spirit is a bit nuts, so it seems absolutely mad, yet quite expected that two men by the names of Zack Courts and Ari Henning from MotorTrend’s were mad enough to want to ride these bikes over 1000 miles along the Baja peninsula of Mexico. The route retraces the famous original Baja 1000 route, adding on a few extra miles.
Bear in mind that the Baja route is normally only tackled by those in powerful trophy trucks and desert buggies, or in the very least off-road motorcycles over 450cc.
The route in question is used to challenged the most hardened machines in existence, but to pay homage to those riders and drivers from the 70’s, what better machine to tackle the route on than on these two little iconic 70’s legends…
Watch how they got on in this very entertaining free episode of Throttle Out.
